The U16 Walnut Grove Arsenals coached by Jose Ramirez and Rebecca Hartman won the Land Park Kick It Tournament division 1 in Sacramento this weekend.
Early Saturday, they crushed the Sacramento North Gunners 5-0 and the Prospector Vapor Trails 5-0. Sunday mid morning they played Sierra Gold Velocity and easily won 5-0. Sunday afternoon for the championship game they faced Parkway United, who were out for revenge as the Arsenals beat them last year in the championship game as U14s in the same tournament.
The Arsenals soundly beat Parkway United 4-1 to win the Land Park Kick It Tournament for the second year in a row. Forwards Ivan Gutierrez and Elmer Lizarde, middles Jose Alcaraz, Aaron Gonzalez, Ricardo Rodriguez, Oscar Santiago, Brandon Gutierrez, David Andres and Kenji Matsuno, along with tough defenders Hunter Hartman, Eduardo Tejeda, Victor Garcia, Sergio Garcia, Adam Kinsella, Marcos Guevara, Forrest Faszer plus goalie Tony DeMarco had been unstoppable in their quest to win the championship title 2 years in a row. No other team has done that before.
Thus far in regular season play as U16s, the Arsenals are 6-0 - which is remarkable considering they are playing their first year as U16’s going against older young men. Their undefeated streak is continuing this year with 39 wins and no losses in both regular season and tournament play.
